The 2016 Biennale - Architecture as a factor of improved living conditions

Reporting from the front” is the title of the 15th International Architecture Exhibition at the Biennale di Venezia.
The theme – selected by this year’s Director Alejandro Aravena – investigates the urgency of combining architecture with the need to improve the quality of the built environment and, as a consequence, people’s lives.
The selection of the curator of the Padiglione Italia considered this general theme: the Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism Dario Franceschini selected the studio TAMassociati.

TAKING CARE – Designing for the Common Good” is the title of the proposal advanced by TAMassociati for the Padiglione Italia. A theme – that of “caring” that fits well within the more general structure of the Biennale and which is intended as tangible proof of how architecture can contribute to spreading and increasing the effectiveness of principles of culture, social interaction, participation, health, integration and legality anywhere and at any scale.

The DGAAP received a total of nine curatorial proposals from selected candidates, expressly invited to examine the theme of the periphery and the development of the city.
The following 10 people were invited: Stefano Boeri; Antonella Bruzzese; Maristella Casciato; Fabrizio Gallanti; Isabella Inti; Carlo Ratti; Matteo Scagnol; Simone Sfriso -TAMassociati; Benedetta Tagliabue; Paola Viganò.
The choice ensures continuity between government action that, through the reform of the MiBAC created the DGAAP and approved a series of regulations offering incentives to municipal governments, including funding, to transfer a significant number of cultural initiatives from historical centres toward urban peripheries.
