The DGAAP, the Directorate-General for the Promotion of the Italian Economic System of the MAECI - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Cultural Institute of Barcelona are pleased to announce the 2nd edition of the Premio Barcellona (Barcelona Prize). The prize offers two young designers the opportunity to spend six months in Barcelona (February – August 2020) to explore how professional practice approaches ecologically sustainable design.
In addition to working with practices specialised in the themes of the Prize, the winning designers will also have the chance to participate in cultural initiatives organised by the Italian Institute of Culture in Barcelona and ELISAVA (University School of Design and Engineering of Barcelona).
For the 2nd edition of the Premio Barcellona the Jury will assign two 6-month study grants offering the following benefits:
a) a monthly stipend of € 2,250.00 for room and board and living expenses as compensation for time spent working with a professional practice specialised in sustainable and low environmental impact design;
b) return airfare to Barcelona from Italy;
c) insurance for medical expenses, injury and accidents.
Aspiring candidates for the Premio Barcellona must meet the following requirements:
a) Italian citizenship;
b) birthdate after 31 December 1984;
c) Laurea magistrale or First Cycle degree in Architecture (class LM04) or Design (class LM12), or First Cycle academic Diploma or Second Level in Design, or equivalent title recognised by the MIUR, Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, or a post-graduate degree (Second Level Master, PhD or equivalent) in the field of Design;
d) demonstration of proven design and research activities in the specific field of sustainable and low impact design (ecological design);
