The Premio Johannesburg offers a three-month residency to an Italian artist that fosters direct contact with the cultural and artistic scene in South Africa. The Johannesburg residency is offered by August House (6 weeks) and the NIROX Foundation (6 weeks). The winner of the Prize will have the opportunity to participate in various activities and benefit from a range of opportunities and collaborations with other structures.
The Prize is the second to be instituted under the agreement between the Directorate-General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries of the MiBAC – Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Directorate-General for the Promotion of the Italian Economic System of the MAECI - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Cultural Institute of Pretoria as part of the “Italia, Culture, Africa” cultural programme.
The residency is scheduled to take place from September to November 2019.
The Prize is open to Italian artists born after the 31 December 1979, active in the visual arts, in its broadest sense of the term. Applicants must demonstrate at least one personal exhibition and a good level of English language skills.
